Seventeen going on eighteen (pun intended), Carissa lives in Manila, Philippines and is a student at the Ateneo de Manila University. She likes film, music, literature, and peanut butter. Her favorite band is Muse, and her favorite poet is (possibly) Charles Bukowski. She likes drinking coffee, sleeping late, and eating breakfast. She is also going to improve this page once she has the time and patience to do so, but until then, have a picture of some coffee—and some randomly typed up musings.
Films and Myself
I know they say never tell anybody your dreams (because if you fail, you’re left with nothing), but I’m an aspiring film director. I wanted to be a lawyer for the longest time just like my dad, but in 2008, I saw Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas and I was sold. After I watched it, I suddenly realized that I wanted to make movies like this, and not necessarily action-packed violent gangster movies—just movies that made me feel the same way. Goodfellas was really that one film that inspired me to do everything. That’s how I knew I wanted to make movies, along with seeing The Hurt Locker and A Single Man.
Other favorite films include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, High Fidelity, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (my teenage movie), The Princess Diaries (my childhood movie), 28 Days Later, Pride and Prejudice, and Blood Diamond. Among a whole load of others, of course.
Music and the Rest of It
So my favorite band is Muse. And seeing them play for the first time last February 6, 2010, live in Hong Kong at the Asia World Expo—it was just phenomenal. Every fiber of my being was recharged and brought to life at that concert, and it is my dream to see them one day play live here in Manila, the heart of my country. I want to live to see the day come true, and come on, how good does that even sound? “Muse: Live in Manila.” (I think I’ve lost it.)
Other favorite bands/artists include The National, Florence and the Machine, Tom Waits, The Beatles, U2, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Rufus Wainwright, The XX, Franz Ferdinand, and many, many more.
(So again I just randomly typed this all up, but this page is still relatively under construction.)
